Mudrats suffer shock loss

2 Feb 2014 by Ryan Forbes

The Mudrats have suffered a shock loss at the hands of Warner’s Bay during their round 16 clash. The Bay, struggling at the bottom of the table found some grit to chase down the Rats 173 in the final over of their fixture at Myamblah Crescent on Saturday Afternoon/Night. The Rats started well with the Forbes cousins putting on a good opening stand of 60 odd with a good combination of attacking a defensive cricket being shown. M Forbes was seeing them well with 3 off 15 balls, I mean 15 overs as he looked to set himself for the remainder of the innings. M Forbes then hit his straps after the drinks break (a well earned rest although he was probably still lubricated from the night before) as he put on a quick fire 40 off three overs to get the scoring going. N Smith looked helpless at the non strikers end as Forbes scored all over the park. Even a drop knee ramp swipe over the keepers head was played……for a dot ball. Not long After Marky was out, and the run rate dropped however the Rats managed to scramble to 173 with Luffman run out in the last over trying to get back for a second to keep the dangerous hitter of President Elsley on strike. Early wickets were hard to find when the Rats took the ball however some good bowling from Roos managed to grad some key wickets before drinks. Marky filled up again (this time on the H2O) and there was 75 from 75 required and the game was in the balance. McIlveen was giving the batsmen some tips on how to get the runs (after his first ball duck) and also the umpires how to call wides which set up a thrilling last section of the game. Armidale was introduced into the attack and took an early wicket however the black cat he saw and the mirror he broke earlier in the day cost the Muddies dearly. Elsley, Sinclair and Johnston x 2 dropped sitters (Sally Spriggs, the KFC GM looks ok on TV at the mo) which seem to cost the rats the cash. Poor old Armidale had only one word to describe the defeat after he caught up with Team App after the loss….“Fuckkkkkk”. You could see it in his eyes he was disappointed with the loss. Mike Young has been called in for a emergency fielding session to get the Rats back on track for their defense of the B2 title as the loss yesterday makes them walk the tightrope to be around in March when the trophies are on offer.
